RUSSIA AND ITALY
CONTROVERSY OVER DEBTS ROME, Jan. 20 Replying to the Russian decision to suspend payments to Italian firms and organisations dealing commercially with the Soviet, the Foreign Office denies that Italy is indebted to Russia. On the contrary, Russia owes Italy several million lire due in the current year. Russia has not executed, during recent months, contracts to supply oil and by-products to Italy. The Russian decision, says the Foreign Office, is an expedient, under which she admits her insolvency to Italy.
