BOWLING TITLE
DOMINION TOURNEY RINKS CHAMPIONSHIP POST-SECTION PLAY BEGUN 1 ( FIVE TWO-LTFERS LEFT [by telegraph—rilKSS association] DUNEDIN. Wednesday
Twenty-nine rinks topk part in postsectional play when the Dominion bowling tournament was continued today in perfect weather. At tho conclusion of thrco rounds, played under tho automatic two-life system that number was reduced to 10, of which five rinks still have two lives. The fivo two-lifers arc those skipped by Aitchison (Caledonian), lhomson (Phoenix), Wilson (Liuwood), Britten (Sydenham), and Foster (Caversham). Seven local combinations of the 10 rinks left have one life oach, theso being Thompson (Balmaccwnn), Carswell (Taiori), Webster (Kaituna), Veitch (West Harbour), Do.wland (St. Kilda), Ferguson, (Balmacewan), and Tyrrell (Roslyn). Tho other three are Piper (Maitai), Marks (Christchurch), and Bull (JTawera). In practically every case the two-life men went through the three rounds of post-sectional play with convincing vicThomson, in particular, registering, three good wins. His victims 'were Dowland (St. Kilda), Gagliardi (Edgeware), and Piper (Maitai). Gagliardi gained seven wins and one loss in section play, but went out comparatively easily in the first two rounds to-day. Aitchison's throe wins included victories over Marks (Christchurch) and Tyrrell, the well-known Roslyn player. W 7 ilson won his matches comfortably, in no instance being extended. Foster and Britten each drew a bye and had to play only two games. In a third round match Britten accounted for Veitch (West Harbour), 25—16 on the 20th head after the local rink had an early advantage.
One of the most interesting games, although by no means the closest, was that in which the veteran, W. Carswell, with orio life, met Watts (Victoria) and won by tho substantial margin <jf nine points on the 20th head. Carswfell played brilliantly, his drawing shots; being a model of accuracy, and ho ran to a 15 —1 lead on tho eighth head;' Against such a lead the visitors could do little, and, although they drew up slightly in the middle game, they had practically no chance from the beginning. *. Following were the results:- 4 - .

NORTHERNERS FAIL r HAWERA RINK REMAINS
HOSKING'S TEAM DEFEATED
[BY TELECRAI'H —OWN correspondent] DUNEDIN, Wednesday The South Island rinks made practically a clean sweep of post-section play in the Dominion bowling tournament to-day, the end of the first three rounds seeing only one northern rink
left in the competition. This is the I Hawera four, skipped by Bull, who won their first round match against HUnt- • ley (Roslyn) by the comfortable score of 24 —15, but then went down to Wilson (Linwood) rather easily, the final score being 10—26. Bull still has one life, however. The only Auckland rink which took part in post-section play was that skipped by Hosking (Grey Lynn), but he did not survive the first two rounds, being beaten first by Ferguson (Balmacewan), 19 —20, and then by Madsen (Opawa), 15 —17. Both were close games throughout and the result was 'in doubt until the final head. Hosking had previously tied with two other rinks at the head of his section, which included some strong combinations, arid 'it seemed likely that he would give a better account of himself than ho did to-day. However, the opposition natnr"allv became sterner with the weeding out of the weaker rinks.
