DEEP-SEA FISHING

CATCHES AT MAYOR ISLAND [by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] TAURANGA, Wednesday Excellent sport is being enjoyed by Mr. and Mrs. J. Lindsay Meyers, of Manila, Philippine Islands, who are spending a fishing holiday at Mayor Island. They went out to the island on January 10 and up to Monday had caught five striped marlin swordfish and four sharks. Particulars of their catches are as follows:—Mr. Meyers, striped marl in of 3121b. and 2401b., reremai shark of 3801b., mako shark of 2501b., thresher shark of 5581b.; Mrs. Meyers, striped marlin of 340U>., 2351b. and 3101b., mako shark of 2011b. > ■«#' On Monday Mr. A. V. P. Fowl, of Rotorua, caught a thresher shark of 4451b. It was 14ft. long and fought for 2} hours. The total number of fish caught this season in the waters of Mayor Island is 20 sharks and 28 striped marlin swordfish.
