OCEAN YACHT RACE
START THIS EVENING WITHDRAWAL OF NGATAKI The ocean yacht race to Hobart for the Transtasman Cup will start from Judge's Bay at 7 o'clock this evening. The competitors will be the 41ft. staysail schooner Aurora, owned by Mr. H. E. Terry, of Avondale, and the 36ft. cutter Wayfarer, owned by Messrs. K. and G. Reid, of Otahuhu. It was announced last week that the well-known cutter Ngataki would also be a competitor, but her owner, Mr. W. J. Wray, stated yesterday that he had not been able to secure a suitable crew and his boat had been withdrawn from the race. The distance from Auckland to Hobart by sea is 1530 miles and the race will finish on the Derwent R\ver at Hobart.
The contest is being controlled by the Royal Akarana Yacht Club, which will declare the handicaps to-day.
