NAVAL AT HOME
FUNCTION ON LEANDER OFFICERS ACT AS HOSTS MANY GUESTS ENTERTAINED A light breeze from the harbour and sunshine that had lost the heat of its earlier hours, made conditions very pleasant for the At Home which was held by Captain J. W. Rivett-Carnac and the officers of H.M.S. Leander yesterday afternoon. Pinnaces in waiting at the Admiralty steps conveyed the large number of guests to the ship, where, from the quarter deck on which they wero received a far-stretch-ing view of the Waitemata Harbour and its many inlets was enjoyed. After the heat of the city the sea breeze was delightfully fresh and stimulating. Cocktails and other iced drinks, with savouries, were additionally pleasant on so warm a day. Iho music played by the ship's band stationed on the wharf beside the ship was another enjoyable feature of the At Home. The invited guests included: —RearAdmiral the Hon. E. R.
