OBITUARY
MR. J. J. CLOUT The death has occurred at Rotowaro of Mr. John James Clout, aged 62, who was tho oldest official employed by Taupiri Coal Mines, Limited. He had been connected with the company for 48 years. Mr. Clout, who was born at Thames, carried out valuable rescue work at the time of the Ralph's Mine disaster in 1914. He is survived by his wife, one son and, three daughters. MRS JESSIE BIRRELL The death occurred this week at her residence, 71 Williamson Street, Epsom, of Mrs. Jessie Birrell, at the age of 83. Mrs. Birrell came from Scotland with her husband, the late Mr. It. M. Birrell, who settled at Te Hapara, Gisborne, where he was engaged in farming. The couple came to Auckland 12 years ago. Mrs. Birrell, whoso husband died in 1929, is survived by a family of eight. There are also 23 grandchildren and nino great-grand-children. MR. J. G. MOODY [by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] DUNEDIN, Thursday The death has occurred of Mr. John George Moody, aged 83, advertising manager and publisher of tho Evening Star, who retired a few years ago after 60 years' service with tho company. Mr. Moody was one of the first bassos of tho Dunedin Choral Society, and also a well-known bowler.
