UNLICENSED TAXI TOURS

PAYMENT OF FINES EXTENDED TIME GRANTED

An extension of time for the payment of fines imposed on 17 taxidrivers- for transporting tourists from the cruise ship Strathmore to Rotorua on November 19 and 20 without special licences'has been granted. Mr. A. R. de Balfour, manager of International Tourist Bureau, Limited, from whom this information was received, said that the Court had extended the time of payment from January 15 to January 31, on condition that each of the men concerned made personal application to the magistrate. He stated that several of the drivers had already applied for and received, the extension, and that before the period had expired an appeal {vould be lodged with the Minister of Justice, the Hon. H. G. R. Mason, for exemption from the fings.
