BLACKMORE'S BAY
ACCESS TO CAMPING GROUND £3OO SUBSIDY FOR ROAD £bt telegraph—OWN correspondent] COROMANDEL. Tuesday The clerk reported to the Coroinandel County Council yesterday that in a telegram received on December 10 from Mr. J. Thorn, M.P., it was stated that the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, had authorised a £3O subsidy, £1 for £l, for the construction of »' road to Blackmore's Bay, the new motor fft-mping ground at Coromandel. A confirmatory letter from Mr. Semple stated, that the amount of the subsidy was £3OO, £1 for £l, toward the cost of metalling and cartage, lhe Minister pointed out that the road was not legalised .and tho subsidy was made available if the council would proceed with the work along the lines suggested, but to be- built up to the standard approved by the department, and. also complete all legalisation before submitting a claim for payment. Efforts were made by the council to complete this road before the Christmas traffic commenced. The area on which it had to be constructed was a tidal flat and a short bridge was required, with a good deal of filling. The work was completed just before Christmas and the motor camp was very well patronised. The council decided to take immediate steps to legalise the road and to build it up to the required standard and replace the temporary bridge.
