CRIPPLED CHILDREN
COST OF MAINTENANCE
CHARGES AT WILSON HOME
[BY TELEGRAPH OWN* CORRESPONDENT] WHANGAREI, Tuesday
Surprise at the high cost of maintenance of patients at the Wilson Home for Crippled Children was expressed by members of the Whangarei Hospital Board at its meeting yesterday, when an account for the treatment of an infantile paralysis case from the Whangarei district was received from the Auckland Hospital Board. It was stated that the Health Department had approved of the charge of 16s a day as between the Auckland Hospital Board and other boards, but considered that parents should not bo. charged more than 10s, tho boards carrying the other 6s. Members expressed the opinion that the money subscribed in the Whangarei district for the crippled children should have been used for the purchase of the necessary equipment for the Whangarei Hospital, so that patients from the district could be treated in their own hospital. The charge for treatment of children in the Whangarei Hospital was only 4s 6d a day. It was decided to obtain a report from the medical superintendent as to the feasibility of treating such patients in the Whangarei Hospital.
