RECORD OF BUSINESS LAST QUARTER'S FIGURES A summary of the work carried through at the Auckland Supreme Court during the last quarter of last year shows that criminal business occupied two Judges for 17 sitting days. True bills were found in 11 cases and 110 bills in two. Nine persons were convicted of criminal offences and two acquitted, and 31 were sentenced after having pleaded guilt}'. The number of divorce petitions heard by a Judge reached the large total of 158. Ninety-seven decrees nisi and 104 decrees absolute were sealed. During the quarter 1224 securities and 188 satisfactions were fded. Fifteen bankruptcy petitions were filed, nine of them coming from the debtors. Ten bankrupts were granted their discharge. Fifteen sales of mortgages were made through the registrar, and a total of £3107 was collected by the Court in fees. A total of G9 civil actions was commenced, and the whole amount claimed in these was £49,285. A Judge alone heard 22 of the cases and nine came before a common jury. Decision was given aftor trial in 31 cases, and 25 actions were settled or discontinued. The plaintiff was successful in obtaining judgment in 26 cases and the defendant in six. In cases in which judgment was entered aftor trial or by default or on confession the total amount claimed was £20,135 and the amount recovered was £4220.
