IFAIIt TO FINE GENERALLY RISING TEMPERATURES The weather report and forecast for jfew Zealand, issued Inst evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —An anti-cyclone now extends on to the Dominion with its centre to the north while a fresh depression is located over south-eastern Australia and is advancing on to the Tasman Sea. The forecast is for north-easterly winds on parts of the east coast of the South Island, otherwise .light to moderate south-westerly prevailing, changing shortly to north-westerly about and south of Cook Strait and freshening during to-morrow. Seas considerable, but decreasing with a southerly swell south of Castlo Point, otherwise slight to moderate. Eastern Tnsjnan Sea: Light to moderato southwesterly winds in the northern portion with slight to moderate seas and moderate but freshening west to northwesterly winds and rising seas in the southern portion. The weather is likely to be' fair to tine generally, but with a few isolated showers at first in the eastern coastal areas and showers developing during to-morrow in the western and far southern portions of the South island. Temperatures cool but rising. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST FIXE AND CUOL
The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Light to moderate southwesterly winds veering to westerly. The weather is likely to be fine with cool but rising temperatures. Seas slight to moderate. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —Milder weather than that of past weeks was experienced yesterday, the wind during the day being moderate to fresh from tho south-west, and light from the south last night. The maximum temperature was 72 degrees and tire minimum was 62 degrees. Conditions were fine with light clouds. Barometric pressure continued to rise. Barometer, midnight, rising .. 30.20 in. Midnight, Sunday .. .. 29.76 in. Wellington.—The weather was cool and fine and for most part sunny with a southerly breeze prevailing. Tho minimum temperature on Sunday night was 48.4 degrees, and the maximum yesterday 63 degrees. At 3.30 p.m. the barometer reading was 30.00 in. Christchurch. —The weather was overcast in. the morning but the afternoon was brilliantly fine. A light south-west wind changed to a fresh north-easter about noon. The maximum temperature was 62 degrees. The barometer rose slowly and read 29.95 in. at 5 p.m. Dunedin. —Early in the morning the 6ky was overcast but the sun soon broke through and the day was warm and sunny.
