ROTARY LUNCHEON

ANNUAL "LADIES' DAY" MEMBERS', WIVEB ATTEND FINAL PARTY FOR YEAR Wives of the members of the Auckland Rotary Club were present nt the club's final' lunchean for the year held in the Milne and Chovce Reception Hall yesterday. The hall had been appropriately decorated in keeping with the Christmas season, festoons of green, red nn<l silver in wreaths and dm pings adorning the stage and the side walls, while a Christmas message from Rotary occupied a prominent place on the stage. A pleasant gesture on the part of the club members was the posy of flowers placed on every table for the women guests. A welcome to the ladies was extended by the president, Mr. H. T. Thomas, who said the fact was appreciated that if Rotary was to be developed as it should be it must have the goodwill and support of the members' wives, He briefly outlined the Rotary movement and paid a special tribute to Mrs. Charles Rhodes, who had, ho said, done more to help and foster the movement in New Zealand than any other woman. He greatly re gretted that owing to ill-health Mrs. Hhodes was unable to be present at the luncheon. Another pioneer in Rotary in Auckland was Lady Foivlds, who was specially welcomed by the president. Prior to an address by Mr. J. W. Shaw, community singing, in which were included Christmas carols, was led bv Mr. G. Lawrence Taylor.

Special invitations were extended to Lady t'owlds, Mrs. Charles Rhodes, Miss Rhodes. Mrs. T. G. List (New Plymouth), Mrs. F. Hurley (Sydney), and Mrs. Charles Bowden (Wellington). The hostesses were Mrs. H. T. Thomas, wife of the president, Mrs. G. J. Park, wife of the vice-president, and Mrs. Athol Wells, wife of the honorary secretary.
