DE SOTO CASE

PENALTY CONFIRMED FURTHER HEARING BY CLUB FRESH EVIDENCE ADDUCED [BY TKIjKGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION] CHRISTCHURCH. Monday The judicial stewards of the New Brighton Trotting Club to-day reopened consideration of the De Soto case. After long deliberation and the hearing of fresh evidence, it was decided that the finding of the stewards at the. club's meeting on December 4 that C. Johnson, the owner, J. Pringle, the driver, and the horse De Soto be disqualified for three months, for not trying to win, should stand. The appeal was first dealt with by the New Zealand Trotting Association last Friday evening, when fresh evidence was heard, and it was decided to refer the case back to the New Brighton club.

EPSOM TRACK WORK WILLOW WAVE'S CONDITION FOUR REINSMEN TO FLY NORTH BY ABAYDOB No fast work was attempted at Epsom yesterday, but several used the sand for solid work. Most of the visiting horses were given strong pace work. Willow Wave (M. Scoon) revelled in a task over several laps. The Waverle.v horse is well seasoned. J. Eraser bet Indianapolis and Tempest light work. The triple New Zealand Cup winner is bright and muscular and has made progress since the Addington meeting. Tempest, in view of his displays last month, should invest the Auckland Cup with interest. . Royal Doulton, allotted unhoppled work, moved along freely. She shows the quality of most of the Jack Potts stock. Rongomai and Bittersweet were restricted to exercise on the jogging art-a. Bittersweet looks a greatlyimproved mare to what she was last December. The aristocratic-looking Starwyn moved boldly over several circuits and no fault can be found with his condition.

Young Rodney (L. Laver) trotted two miles. He has not looked so well for some time past. C. G. Lee sent Audo Patch and Parrish Belle over -three laps, both trotting in good style. Fisher (A. Pa ton) sprinted the last few furlongs of a mile and a-half. He is standing up to his work and showing fine speed. Dick Redmond and Hoi Grande also worked. The latter, who has not done much fast work on the firm tracks, is robust in condition. Forest Jewel (L. Mitchell) paced freelegged over a mile and a-half. In style he resembles Mountain Dell, who holds the New Zealand ' two-mile record, 4.18 4-5, for a mare. Several southern reiilsmen, with engagements in the Auckland Trotting Cup, will drive at Ashburton on Monday and will come by air to reach Auckland on Tuesday morning. They are 0. E. Hooper, who will steer Willow Wave, R. B. Berry, driver of Lucky Jack. Freeman Holmes, who is engaged for Roi L'Or, and D. C. Watts, who will drive Mr. G. J. Barton's second string, Tempest. J. Fraeer will bo behind Indianapolis. *" ........ ■ The grass track will be open this morning from 6 to 11 o'clock, and it is Fraser's intention to give his .team a ruri. v Mr. J. 'Gavin, the Auckland Trotting Club's starter, Trill be in attendance at 8 o'clock for .barrier practice.

AWAPUNI QUARTETTE DEPARTURE FOR AUCKLAND TAILLIGHT PROFICIENT JUMPER [by TELKGItAPH —own correspondent! PALMERSTON NORTH. Monday Florence Mills.. Wagner, Quadroon and The Crooner, who leave to-night for Auckland, appear to be in splendid condition. A pleasing display over four hurdles was given to-day by Taillight (Parkes), whose companion was hkyful (McDowell). Taillight's pace on the flat made him shine alongside the Sky Blue gelding, but he took every obstacle in his stride, jumping fast and cleanly. It is probable he will make his debut as a hurdler at Marton on New Year's Day. , First Half (C. Thomson) jumped three hurdles carefully but safely. H e is a gelding by Centrepiece and is in Thomson's charge. Aurora's Love (Thomson) jumped four hurdles. She had plenty of pace all the way and although she picked slightly at "the second, she jumped the other hurdles flawlessly and is gaining confidence with racing. l Mr. C. Boyle this morning lost the services of the maiden performer Barcelona, who created a good impression in his only start at Levin. Barcelona, who was the five-year-old half-brother to Gibraltar, being by Raceful from Alvarez, was found dead in his paddock. He was to have raced at the Manawatu meeting next week and had improved since the Levin meeting.
