ELLERSLIE TRACK VISITING HORSES WORK COURTCRAFT LOOKS VERY WELL f ' Few horees galloped at Ellerslie yesterday morning, the majority being confined to pace work on the tan and 6and, although the No. 3 grass was available., C'erne Abbas and Rojal Chief strode very easily over half a mile in 54 3-os. They quickened their stride at the end of a furlong and were doing it well to register 39 4-5s for the last three. Courtcraft, who bears a bright and healthy appearance, went a circuit in 1.50, but he was not allowed to gather speed until reaching the three-furlongs post. From there he moved well within himself, to finish in 42 1~5«. The Derby candidate has good action and is a wellmade, robust type of whom the best probably has jet to be seen. Had he •truck form on the Australian venture, Courtcraft would have returned with a big reputation, but he has every chailbe to vindicate the good opinion formed of him when opposed to Royal Chief in the Great Northern Derby. Fersen was striding along in impree- / iive fashion prior to the Waipa meeting, but he raced poorly in the Te Awamutu Cup However, excuses can be made for him, as he was sore and he also struck himself in the race. A Railway Handicap candidate, Rereatu, was very sore after his race in the sprint at Waipa, and it is likely he will forgo his engagement. A. E. Ellis had heen engaged to ride Rereatu, but, in the event of the Ellerslie horse being withdrawn, the southern jockey will be offered the mount on Ben Braggie.
UNBEATEN FILLY PROSPECTS OF FLORENCE MILLS Florence Mills, who has an unbeaten record in three starts, is expected to go on to further success when she competes at Ellerslie during the holidays. Florence Mills is a stylish three-year-old brown filly by Desert Gold's full, brother Nigger Minstrel, and her dam is the Lord Quex —Lovematcli mare Liaison, so that she is not only a fullsister to Quadroon, but belongs to the family that Nones, Menclaus, Wotan and others have made famous.
