Tlic weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —An anti-eycloue extends from the North Tasman Sea to beyond the North Island, while a series of westerly depressions is moving across the South Tasman Sea and the South Island. The' forecast is for variable winds :i t fi rs fc over the northern half of the North Island, otherwise northerly to westerly prevailing; force light to moderate generally, but gradually freshening about and south of Cook Strait. Seas rather rough in parts of the Cook and Foveaux Straits areas; otherwise sfight to moderate, but later rising south of Cape Egmont. Eastern Tasinan Sea; .Moderate to fresh north-west to westerly winds, backing at times to southwesterly in the far southern portion; seas moderate, but rising in the southern portion. The weather for the most part is likely to be fair to fine, but unsettled at times in western district® from Taranaki southward, and th« southern portion of the South Island, with scattered rains probable in those areas- Temperatures warm, particularly in eastern districts.

SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST FAIR TO FINE AND WARM The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Light*and variable winds, later tending northerly and freshening somewhat. The weather is likely to be fair to fine and warm; seas slight to moderate. ,

YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —Sunny weather with a moderate breez from the south-south-west was general during the day. The maximum temperature was 74deg. and the minimum 60deg. Last- night was fine with a light wind from the south-south-west. Barometric pressure was steady. Barometer, midnight, steady 29.9 tin. Midnight, Sunday .. 30.02 in. Wellington.—The day was beautifully warm and sunny, with a light but fresh north-westerly wind. The maximum temperature was 70.4 degrees. The barometer reading wan 29.88 in. at 3.30 p.m. Christchurch.—The day was fine and for the most part sunny, with a light north-east breeze. The maximum temperature was 66.9 degrees;. The barometer showed a falling tendency and read 29.86 in. at 5 p.m.

Dunedin. —After rain overnight the morning was fine and sunny, and the temperature reached a maximum of 69 degrees. In the afternoon, though there was little wind, the sky became overcast, and a sharp shower fell. The barometer fell slightly in the morning, but was later steady at 29.95 in.
