ACCESS ROADS
v. __ OFFERS BY FARMERS SPIRIT OF SELF-HELP [from our own correspondent] PUKEKOHE, Monday That the spirit of self-help is very much alive in country districts was evident from several offers received at the meeting of the Franklin County Council to-day. They were from farmers who, wishing to obtain allweather access to their farms, offered to contribute toward the cost. Mr. C. IN T . Hamilton, of Awhitu, undertook to dedicate Tindill's Road. Awhitu, fence it on both sides and pay £2OO toward forming and metalling the first 30 chains. He joined with Mr. J. T. Hamilton in offering a further £4OO to cover the cost of forming and metalling another 40 chains, on condition that one-third of this amount was refunded by the council over two years. The council resolved to accept in recard to this road, but had to defer consideration of other offers, involving the finding of fairly considerable sums by the council, until just prior to next financial year.
