GODWIT SHOOTING
Sir. —Under the above heading Mr. T. W. Collins has written in defence of shooting godwits over decoys. I fancy Mr. Collins' wrote this with his tongue in his cheek. No one doubts the endeavour of every gunner to pick up any wounded bird be can. The trouble is the wounded ones which drop later, and most of these are caused through firing into the flocks haphazard—often over decoys. Mr. Collins says he did not shoot a single bird over his decoys last season. Well, nor did several other shooters on the Kaipara Harbour —they shot them by the dozen, and the proof lies in the photographs of men smothered with godwits. Pro Godwit.
