POLICY WITH TENDERS QUESTION OF PREFERENCE The question whether a tender lor 'Applies of copper wire should he open to both British and German firms was discussed at the meeting ol the Waitetoata Electric-Power Board yesterday. The chairman. Mr. \Y. ft. T. fx-igbton, moved that the recommendation of the engineer, Mr! C. M. Gray, that the tenders be called for, be adopted. "Are the tenders going to be given to British or German firms?" asked Mr. J. Guiniven. "So far, it has always been the company tendering the lowest price," said tl" 1 chairman. "Even if a German firm did win. it would certainly be because 't Was the lowest price." Mr. Guiniven: Well, 1 think that it •ttould be confined to British competitors. It was pointed out that there was a provision in the board's minute book that British firms should be given Preference. Ihe motion was carried without further discussion.
