ROTORUA VISITORS

ACCOMMODATION TAXED CAMPING PROVISIONS HOLIDAY ATTRACTIONS [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] ROTORUA, Monday Although all hotel accommodation in Rotorua was fully booked for the Christmas holiday period several weeks ago, applications are still being received by most of the hotels and boardinghouses, as well as the Tourist Department's bureau and the Borough Council office, from intending visitors who had omitted to make earlier application. There is no doubt that the holiday influx will be a record. To meet the position the Borough Council recently invited residents who had houses or rooms to let during the holiday period to give particulars of the accommodation available, and by this means many of the visitors have been accommodated for varying periods. Hotel accommodation is fully booked from December 24 until the beginning of the new year, while there are indications that the number of motor campers will "also constitute a record.

i Enlarged Motor Gamp Recently an additional area of land was acquired by the council at the Ranolf Avenue motor camp, and this has now been roaded, while throughout the caipp additional amenities have been provided. As another method of accommodating visitors the council recently decided that it would make available sufficient areas at the motor camp for non-motorists who desire to erect tents, while in certain cases the erection of tents is to be permitted for the holiday period only on approved properties in the borough. As usual, a full carnival programme has been arranged by the advancement committee for the Christmas-rsew Year period, features of which will be the Maori competitions, Maori hangis, a procession of decorated vehicles on the afternoon and evening of New \ears Day, and the ceremony of ushering in the new year at midnight on December 31 at the Town Square. On January 2 there will also be the annual summer show. February Tournaments In addition to the rush for accommodation during the Christmas and New Year period, indications are that a serious shortage will also be experienced practically throughout lfebruary. Many hotels already report heavy booking for this month, during which there will be two bowling tournaments, a croquet tournament, the annual meeting of the Rotorua Racing Club, and the 1 ress Conference.
