Fitzgerald considers he is now at top form, but thinks the New Zealand riders with whom he will compete have improved considerably, and cannot he taken lightly. Since his win against an all-Australian field in the Queensland five miles race two years ago Middleton has won important five and 10-miles events in Victoria and Tasmania. Now 21 years of age, Middleton has proved himself an outstanding team rider. . , Morgan showed excellent form in the Centenary Thousand, decided over a course of 1105 miles around Victoria, winning inn filial sprint against a field including Opperman, Borsarl. Lamb, Veitrh *nd Mithouard and Paul Chocques, of France. Mtfrgan is niaking his first trip to New Zealand and, with his powerful physique, is expected to do well.
OCEAN YACHT RACES tauranga and whangaroa ARRANGEMENT OF COURSES Ocean races for keel yachts will start from King's Wharf on Friday evening one to Tauranga and the other to "Whangaroa. In addition a race for mullet boats to Whangarei will commence at 7.30 o'clock. The race to Tauranga will start at 7 o'clock, the first prize for which is the Colin Norrls Memorial Cup, miniature and ilO: second prize, AO; third prize, £4. Ihe first boat to cross the finishing line will receive a champion flag presented by Sir Ernest "fhe course in from starting line to the Mount, at the entrance to Tauranga Harbour, finishing between two beacons in line near North Rock and ling on Matakana Island. The handicaps are as follows: —Tawera, scr; Tamatea, 45m; Queenie, Ih 05m; Tangaroa, 2h 15m; Ngahau, '_> h '-Vim. The race to Whangaroa will start at 7.10 o'clock. The first prize is a cup and £7 10s, second £5, third £2 10s. The course is direct to Whangaroa, the finishing line being at the entrance to Whangaroa Harbour. In the event of the race finishing at night the entrance will be marked by a red light on each headland. . Large entries have been received. The handicaps will be declared this evening. Both races will be started on the five-flag system. Owing to insufficient entries the proposed race for mullet boats to Whangaroa lias been canc lied.
