CANADIAN MEAT DUTY

REDUCTION TO DOMINION ALBERTA FARMERS PROTEST CALGARY, Dec. 19 The Alberta Co-operative Council, the largest farm body in the province, is preparing a protest to Ottawa against the reduction of the duty on New Zealand and Australian mutton and lamb. The farmers allege they have been caused severe losses without warning.

Various concessions for New Zealand and Australian exports to Canada were secured under recently revised trade agreements. The New Zealand agreement was extended for a year from September 30 and under its provisions the duty on. Xen" Zealand mutton and lamb was reduced from 3 cents to £ cent per lb., this concession being considered one of the most valuable in the agreement. A similar reduction was secured by Australia in an agreement announced a few days after that of New Zealand.
