TWO MEN DROWNED CAPSIZE OF A DINGHY COMPANIONS SWIM ASHORE RECOVERY OF ONE BODY [bt telegraph—OWN correspondent! WAIHI, Sunday As the result of the capsize of a dinghy from which they had been fishing two men were drowned at Bowentown, near Waihi Beach, at about nine o'clock last evening. The victims were:— Mr. George Chalker, aged .53 years, a mining pensioner, of Waihi, married, with two children. Mr Harry Saussey, aged 32 years, a miner, of Waihi," also married, with throe young children. Together with two other men, Mr. Benjamin Morris and Mr. Septimus Henderson, both of Waihi. §tho_\ were . fishing from a dinghy in„ the Bowen- J town Channel. At about nine o'clock a heavy swell came up. and the men decided to make for the shore. | While they were pulling up the anchor, however, it fouled an obstruc- ! tion on the bed of the channel, pulling the boat down by the bow. The; dinghy quickly flooded and turned over. All the men struck out for the snore, which was obscured by darkness and the heavy seas, but only two of them succeeded in reaching it. The body of Mr. Chalker was discovered early this afternoon at the Bowentown end of Waihi Beach, partly buried in the sand, and was taken to Waihi. Mr. Saussey's body has not yet been found. FATE OF A BATHER THE FOXTON BEACH TWO OTHERS RESCUED WORK OF SURF CLUB PATROL [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] PALMERSTON NORTH. Sunday A resident of Palmerston North, j Mr. Thomas Lovejoy, was drowned at j the Foxton Beach this afternoon. Two other bathers, Miss Jean Tre- j vellyn and Mr. A. Allen, also of Palmerston North, got into difficulties at - the same time and were rescued by ; the surf club patrol. The body of Mr. Lovejoy has not yet been recovered.
