ORAKEI VILLAGE

CHRISTMAS PARTY HELD Unusual public interest was shown in a Christmas party given to the occupants of the Ornkei Maori village on Saturday by the welfare committee of the National Reserve, Nursing Division. of the Auckland St. .John Ambulance Brigade. Several cars stopped 011 the waterfront road to witness the function, and among others who showed their interest were members of the touring parties from the Strathaird. The party, which was organised by Mrs. C. Webber, uuperintendent of the National Reserve, Nursing Division, comprised a Christmas tree, the distribution of gifts to every member of the village, and refreshments. The children were particularly impressed by the appearance, for the first time in the village, of Father Christmas. The sponsors of the function were thanked by the natives, who also extended a welcome to Mrs. Webber's mother, Mrs. M. A. Beatty, who was born in Auckland 86 years ago. ,
