METEOROLOGICAL
MAINLY FAIR TO CLOUDY, UNSETTLED IN THE SOUTH The weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —There has been little change in ihe situation since yesterday. Pressure over the Dominion is still relatively high, while a depression is advancing tilowlv across the South Tasman Sea, The forecast is for winds between northerly and westerly prevailing, force light to moderate generally, but gradually freshening, moro particularly about Cook Strait and in the far south. Seas moderate to rather rough and increasing about Cook and Foveaux Straits; elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate and variable winds, with northerly to west- [ erlv predominating and gradually freshening, particularly in the southern portion; seas smooth to ut * n " creasing in the south. The weather for 1 the most part is likely to be fair to cloudy in districts with a westerly ! aspect. However, from Taranaki south- , ward and in the far south conditions ; are gradually becoming unsettled, with scattered rain. Temperatures warm. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST FAIR TO CLOUDY The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the follow- ; ing sper-ial forecast for the Auckland Province: —Light tq. moderate and variable winds, with northerlies predominating. The weather is likely to be fair to cloudy; temperatures warm; seas ' smooth to moderate. I ; WEEK-END WEATHER Auckland. —Generally fine condition* ruled at the week-end. A light to ■ moderate southerly wind was experi- | enced on both days. On Saturday the " sky was overcast and the weather was hot. Yesterday the sun shone continuously, but the wind kept conditions cool. The maximum temperature was ' 77 degrees and the minimum 60 de- | grees. The barometer remained steady about 30in. and Bhowed a rising teni dency last night. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 30.02 in. Midnight, Saturday ' .. 29.95 in. Wellington.— fine and I sunny, with a light southerly breeze until late in the afternoon, when it 7 changed to a northerly. Yesterday was * fine and sunny, with a fresh north-. 1 westerly breeze. The maximum tern-'* 3 perature on Saturday was 66 and yesterday 67.6 degrees. The barometer * reading at 3.30 p.m. was 29.85 in. With a few short periods of sunB shine in the afternoon, the sky was I overcast for the greater part of the day and there was no wind. The baro- - meter fell to 29.93 in. and the maximum * temperature was 57 degrees.
