MOTOR SAILER
NEW CRAFT LAUNCHED LARGE FUEL CAPACITY EXTENSIVE CRUISING RANGE An unusual addition to- Auckland's fleet of pleasure boats was launched at Stanley Bay on "Saturday, when the large motor sailer built by Mr. C. Wild for Mr. Douglas Mill, of Hobsonville, was put afloat. The new boat is 55ft. overall and has a beam of 15ft., and while it is to be rigged as a ketch and is expected to be capable under sail, it is to have «*i Diesel engine of 120 h.p. installed and this is calculated to give tho boat a speed of 11 knots. The new vessel was taken to the Markets wharf inside the Western viaduct on Saturday to have the engine installed, after which a certain amount of finishing work will have to be done before it is ready for use. The craft is well planned for extensive cruises and has two spacious cabins, the equipment including a shower compartment and a refrigerator. A striking feature is a largo glass pilot house almost amidships, where tho wheel and all controls will he located. The tftnks will bo capable of carrying 600 gallons of fuel and 200 gallons of fresh water, which should give a cruising range to Australia or the islands. When rigged and in sailing trim, the new boat should present a handsome appearance. It has a rounded bow with 3ft. overhang and a sloping transom stern, and although the freeboard is generous the pronounced sheer of the deckline gives the vessel a Beaworthy look.
