ITALY'S INTENT

CONFLICTING REPORTS LEAGUE MEMBERSHIP EAItliY SECESSION DENIED ■ f GEAND COUNCIL TO MEET By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received December 10, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 9 A message from Rome says the Italian Government's spokesman denies that Italy's withdrawal from the League of Nations is imminent. In spite of his official disclaimer, however, the withdrawal seems certain. The Fascist Grand Council has been summoned for Saturday. Immediately after the meeting an announcement will be made from the balcony of the Piazza Yenezia, instead of by the customary official statement. ,

The Rome correspondent of the Daily Telegraph says Signor Mussolini's reported intention to leave the .League has caused a deep impression. The reasons for the decision might be summed up as disappointing. Count Grandi, Italian Ambassador tp Britain, has. gone to Italy to attend the meeting of the Fascist Grand Council. A message from Geneva states that in view of Italy's obstructionist tactics League circles are not perturbed at the possibility of her withdrawal. It is expected that Italy and Germany will bring pressure to bear on smaller States to secede.
