CONSOLIDATION PLAN EXPANSION OF SYSTEM 30 APPLICATIONS TO BOARD —7— The extent to which the scheme for ■the consolidation of schools is growing is revealed by the fact that the Auckland Education Board has more than 30 applications from country districts awaiting a decision and others are at present before the Education Department for grants to carry out the work. AS'Eight communications from school committees and one from the department were before the Education Board at a meeting, yesterday and were deferred pending further consideration. One of the main schemes under discussion is the consolidation of four primary schools on the Rangitaiki .Plains, and a letter was received from the Otakeri School Committee stating that '22 parents were in favour of and 10 against the proposal to combine the Awaken, Thornton and Otakeri Schools at Edgecumbt(. This is supported also by all the school committees except the .Thornton. Other consolidation proposals are: — Awitu (Manukau Harbour) No. 2 school at Awitu Central; Oruaiti, Oruru and Paranuiat Mangonui; Te Raumauku at Otorolianga; Aramatai at Pio Pio District High f (Te ?Kuiti); Okahu No. 1 at Ruawai;' Opouriao at Taneatua; and Weymouth at Manurewa.
