REPORT ON A PETITION [BY TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL RKFOBTEB] WELLINGTON, Wednesday Tlio opinion that there should be further investigation of the proposed new sewerage scheme for tho Auckland metropolitan area was voiced by the A to L Public Petitions Committee of the House of Representatives in reporting to the House to-day on a petition from the Auckland Harbour Preservation Society expressing opposition to the scheme proposed by the Auckland City and Suburban Drainage Board/* .There was a fairly spirited discussion on the committee's recommendation, which was supported by 3lr. W. P. Entlean (Opposition—Parnell) and Mr. F. W. Schramm' (Government—Auckland East), both of whom expressed the view that the waters and beaches of the Waiteniata Harbour and the Hauraki Gulf should be protected from contamination. Mr. Schramm, who is'chairman of the committee, also stated that there was a strong case for financial assistance by the Government in shifting the proposed sewage outfall from Brown's Island to the West Coast, in the vicinity of Manukau Heads. ' -r . The proposals of the Drainage Board were defended by Mr. W. T. Anderton (Government —Eden), but the committee's report was. finally referred to the Government for consideration; •-
