TO NEW ZEALAND [nv TKLECBAPH—SI'KCIAT, KEI'OItTFJI] / YvELLINGTON, Tuesday Sevora] aspects of animal production and research in New Zealand are to be -"lvesticated early next year by Dr. John Hammond ol"Cambridge University; who will vjsit. the Dominion on the invitotiou of the newly established Animal Research Bureau of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. .An announcement on these lines was made this evening by the Minister in Charge of Scientific and •Industrial Research, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan. Dr. Hammond..;,who is duo to arrive at Auckland on January 10, will spend approximately eight weeks in New Zealand, after which he will visit Australia to make investigations on behalf °f the Australian .Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. ■ f Dr. Hammond has an outstanding fecord as an animal physiologist, particularly in regard to the physiology °f reproduction and the factors iuflueneing the carcase quality of sheep, beef cattle and pigs He has given valuable assistance in examining and preparing reports on trial shipments of New Zealand frozen porkers ut Smith* ° field. , Pr. Hammond also has a very sound understanding of general farming practice, and in his research work successfully combines the spheres ol heredity, physiology and nutrition. During his visit he will make/a comprehensive tour i fanning districts and research sta- . tions, and will give a number of demonstrations and lectures.
