Mawhinney stopped to give a man walking along the road a lift to Pukekohe. Later ho arrested the man on a charge of escaping from custody at Pukekohe over three years ago. The ;nan, David Watts, a labourer, subsequently appeared before Mr. 1). MeOready Armstrong, J.l'., charged with escaping from legal custody at I'iikekolie on October 28, ID.'SI, when hold on a charge of drunkenness. On the application of Sergeant M. Brady accused was remanded to appear at Pukckohe on December 9.
