RACE TRAFFIC MISHAP
SEVERE COLLISION HORSE FLOAT AND CAR WOMAN SERIOUSLY INJURED While heavy race traffic was returning to Auckland from To Papa at about 9..30 on Saturday night, a collision occurred on the Great South Road near Papakura between a large horse float and a motor-car, the" driver of which, Miss Lena Foote, aged about 43. of 14 Watling Street. Mount Eden, suffered concussion, head injuries and a compound fracture of the- 3-icht elbow. She was brought to the Auckland Hospital in a St. John ambulance and her conditions last night was reported to be serious. = Falling on to its right side after the impact, the horse float completely blocked the road until it was righted and driven away. Three front-seat passengers and two jockeys, who were riding with two horses and a foal inside the float, escaped injury. The roof was removed to liberate the horses Miss Foote was alone, driving south ■at the time of the accident. Her car was wrecked, and had to be towed away. Before the arrival of the ambulance, she received attention at the roadside by Dr. Forsyth, a passenger on the cruise liner Strathmore, who was passing in a car on his way to rejoin the ship at Auckland after_ a visit to Potorua. Dr. Warren Young; of Papakura. also attended the patient.
