VOTE OF CONFIDENCE
FRENCH GOVERNMENT ACCORD WITH BRITAIN PARIS. Nov. 19 The Chamber of Deputies passed a motion of confidence in the Government by 339 votes to 160, after a two-day barrage of criticism from the Opposition concerning its internal, general and financial policies, also its conduct of foreign affairs. The Prime M. Chautemps, was assured of a majority when M. Flandin asked his supporters of the Centre Party not to vote, thereby giving the Government a free hand.
"I believe our defence expenditure, although heavy, is nevertheless an economy in the present-day condition of Europe," declared M. Chautemps, reiterating France's fidelity to her pledges and to the League .of Nations, "France," he said, "will do everything to restore the League's authority." He referred to the consolidation and accord with Britain, to which France was united in an equal desire for peace.
