HALF-YEARLY STATEMENT The half-yearly statement of tho Papatoetoe Town Board's finances was presented at the board meeting by the clerk. Mr. . \ nung. It showed that £5144 of the general rates had been collected out of the £7IOO struck for the year, and arrears totalling £520 had been received. The expenditure on road construction work was £1(346; drainage. £227; footpaths. £623; and maintenance work. £314. 'lhe receipts from the sale of water by meter totalled £660. the estimated income for the year being. £450. The expenditure on reserves amounted to £669. including £4-13 under unemployment schemes. Revenue from the hire of the recreation ground totalled £95. The overdraft at September 30 was £625. The chairman. Mr. W. J. Xichohon, said the position was satisfactory. The heaviest expenditure hail to be faced in the half year under review. Mr. G. E. Armour, of Waihi, was appointed to the position of. turncock More than 40 applications were received from all parts of the North Island
