THEFT OF OVERCOAT

"I was hard up against it at tho time, and I took the coat in desperation," said Ronald Matthew Rackley, aged 36, a member of the crew of the steamer Tainui, when charged in the Police Court yesterday with tho theft, at Wellington on' September 10, of an overcoat valued at £6.

The magistrate, Mr. W. 11. McKean, imposed a lino of £4, in default one month's imprisonment. Tho restitution of 10s received from a pawnbroker was ordered.
