Shortly after seven o'clock a large area of gorse in Nile Road, Takapuna, caught alight and the Takapuna Fire Brigade was summoned to suppress the liames, which were in cl(|sc promixity to a row of houses. No water was available and the brigadesinen fought for over an hour before the flames were beaten out. A few fencing posts were burned, but no other damage was done. The scrub fire was in the vicinity of Kauri Point.
