LIME KILN DESTROYED
FIRE NEAR HOKITIKA [HY TiaKfaiAPH —T'RKSS ASSOCIATION] HOKITIKA, Friday The Koiterangi lime kiln building and plant, l~> miles from Hokitika, were practicallv destroyed by fire last nielli. The I>lliklinand plant were insured for £2OO with the (juardian Assurance Company, Limited. GORSE ABLAZE AT TAKAPUNA FLRKMEN'S STHKNt'OUS TASK A large gorse lire at Takapuna and n scrub (ire at the northern end of the harbour were responsible for glows which could be seen from the higher altitudes in the city last night. Shortly after seven o'clock a large area of gorse in Nile Road, Takapuna, caught alight and the Takapuna Fire Brigade was summoned to suppress the liames, which were in cl(|sc promixity to a row of houses. No water was available and the brigadesinen fought for over an hour before the flames were beaten out. A few fencing posts were burned, but no other damage was done. The scrub fire was in the vicinity of Kauri Point.
