PROVINCIAL BANDS

CONTEST IN AUCKLAND Bands from all parts of the Auckland Province will gather in Auckland at the week-end on the occasion of the challenge contest conducted by the Auckland Provincial Brass Bands' Association. At 10 a.m. to-morrow the massed bands will parade from Quay Street through the city to the Town Hall, whore tho visitors will be officially welcomed. The music for the parade will be played by the Balmoral and City Bovs' Bands. The quickstep competition in the B and C grades will take place to-morrow afternoon at Carlaw Park, and in the evening the selection contest will be deOn Sunday afternoon the hymn test will take place and the proceedings will conclude in the evening with the presentation of prizes and a concert. The concert will be particularly interesting as a Maori party with tho Kaikobe Band will give items and the winning bands will play their test pieces.
