GERMAN SHIP
VISIT TO AUCKLAND HAMBURG-A MERIKA LINE ARRIVAL ON SATURDAY The second ship of the HamburgAmerika Lino to visit Auckland, the steamer Naumburg has advised that she expects to arrive here from New Orleans on Saturday morning. The Naumburg, which is running in conjunction with the ships of the regular Noith German Lloyd service, was built at Hamburg in 1920, and is of 0878 tons gross. Sho was formerly the Hamburg. Trading between the Gulf of Mexico and New Zealand, the North German Lloyd has previously used ships other than those of its own ileet. In JIIIS tlio steamer Gera, of the HamburgAmerika Line, was the first to show the coat-of-arms of Hamburg on the Auckland waterfront. The North German Lloyd ships carry the arms of Bremen, a small red shield bearing a -nili to key.
The companies by which the Naumburg is controlled show the extent to which the German mercantile marine has been rationalised under the Nazi regime. All unnecessary competition has been abolished and even the old rivalry between the Hamburg-Amerika and North German Lloyd companies, inherited from tho bitter feuds and quarrels of Hamburg and Bremen within the Hanseatic League, had to give wn, 1 to a reasonable working agreement. An interesting aspect of the visit of the Naumburg to Auckland will be the presence in port at the same time of the Federal Line steamers Cumberland and Hertford, both of which are reparation vessels built at Vegesack, Germany, in 1919. The Cumberland will arrive from Liverpool this evening, and the' Hertford, which is loading here, will be on the opposite berth to the Naumburg at King's Wharf.
