LIFE-SAVING SHIELDS
AUCKLAND. CENTRE'S WIN GRAMMAR SCHOOL SUCCESSFUL Advice has been received by Mr. J. F. Laugley, honorary secretary to tho Auckland Head Centre of the Royal Life-saving' Society, that the centre has been awarded the Wigram Shield, and the .Auckland Grammar School tho Bamford Shield. The Wigram Shield, which Auckland has won for the first time, is 'awarded to tho centre issuing the highest percentage of life-saving awards on a population basis. The Auckland Grammar School's success was due to its achievement in gaining the highest number of awards among the schools and colleges of tho Dominion. It had gained 314 awards, the Auckland Teachers' Training College being runner-up with 171. The Auckland Centre's record in the W igram Shield competition was 986 awards, representing 3213 points, and an .average of 7.0 per 1000 of the population. Canterbury was second with 450 awards, 18141 points, and an average of 6.8 per 1000.
