RESERVE IMPROVEMENTS BETTER TELEPHONE SERVICE The completion of extensive improvements at Jellicoe Park reserve was reported to the Manurewa Town Board. TJho foreman, Mr. F. Sainty, stated that the levelling, banking and roturfing of the running and cycling tracks had been Carried out. The ground would be ready for use by the athletic club during the coming season. Mr. J. H. Edwards said the installation of the proposed flood-lighting scheme would complete a fine sports area. Tho Railway Department's offer to supply 200 yds. of stripped scoria for the resurfacing of the roadway leading to the station, on condition that tho board would receive and lay the material, was accepted. # It was reported that the Minister of Health, the Hon. P. Fraser, had agreed to* attend tho official turning* on of the district water scheme on November 20. Permission was granted the lessee of the local theatre to screen films on Christmas night. Steps to obtain a continuous telephone service for the district were taken by the board. Mr. W. J. Ferguson said a petition signed by twothirds of the subscribers would be necessary. The clerk, Mr. H. Kay, said a questionnaire bad been circulated among a few years a f?°i but the required quota was not forthcoming. The chairman, Mr. W. T. Cox, said the district should have an allnight service. It was agreed to prepare and circulate a petition.
