MANGERE INTERESTS
RATEPAYERS' ASSOCIATION REVIEW OF ACTIVITIES The activities of the Mangere Ratepayers' Association were reviewed at the annual meeting, when the report presented dealt with a variety of interests. The two riding members of the Manukau County Council, Messrs. S. VV. House and A. E. Trayes, wera present.
In reviewing the work carried out in the two ridings during the past year, Mr. House mentioned that representations had been made to have the maintenance costs of Mangere Bridge adjusted so that they would bear less heavily on the district ratepayers. It was contended that Onehunga and the city local authorities should be asked to contribute more toward costs. A recent traffic tally revealed that the numbers of vehicles passing over the bridge was 1250 daily and over 3600 on Sundays. The members also reported on the roads and footpath maintenance. Complaints were received about cycling on footpaths, and the association decided to approach the authorities controlling traffic in the district. Mr. House explained that the County Council did not now have control of traffic in its area. Tho association decided to request the Automobile Association (Auckland) to erect warning signs at the junction of Grey Avenue, Portage Road and Station Road on the Papatoetoe town district boundary. Officers were elected as follows: President, Mr. E. Clark; secretary and treasurer, Mr. G. F. Druco; committee, Messrs. C. S. McCallura, J. Clark, Trayes, House, Bowden, Enting and Merriman.
