CHRISTIANITY AND SOCIALISM

Sir, —Your correspondent Mr. A. Warbiirton says that Christianity and Socialism are poles apart. Is not that a rather serious indictment of modern Christianity? Surely the creed of individualism which Mr. Warbiirton extols is the very antithesis of Christianity. Assuredly the Man who told tlib young ruler to go and sell all that he had and give to the poor, believed in the distribution of wealth. He denounced the idle rich. Ho preached the brotherhood of man. He championed the underdog. He cared for the young, the aged and the needy. And the ethics of the Sermon on the Mount are embodied in socialist idealism. ]{. C. Simmons.
