MINE DISASTER

35 MEN KILLED ALABAMA PIT EXPLOSION RECOVERY OF THE BODIES (Received October 17, 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, Oct. 16 A telegram from Mulga, Alabama, states that 35 men working in tho lowest level of a coal mine were killed when a terrific explosion occurred. The disaster is believed to have been due to gas. The authorities said the exact cause would probably never be known. All the bodies, most of which were burned, were recovered. There is only one known survivor. Ho was working some distance from his comrades. Wives and children of tho men gathered at the entrance to the mine, but their hopes were quickly dispelled tiv a telephone report from the rescue party.
