Oct. 17 Miss Jean Batten arrived at Darwin after an uncomfortable journey through dust and heat. The engine of hor aeroplane will have to be cleaned and there is little hope of her beginning her flight to England before Tuesday. 'The airwoman is interested in Mr. Broadbent's attempt to break the record from England. If he succeeds she says she hopes to "return the compliment.'' ■ ]n an interview at Camooweal yesterday Miss Batten stated that at times she had been forced to fly so low between Mount lsa and Camooweal that she barely cleared the tops of trees.
