CHEST HOSPITAL
QUESTION OF SITE' DECISION NEXT TUESDAY EXTENSIVE BUILDING PLAN The selection of a sit© for the -proposed Auckland chest hospital is expected to be settled at a meeting of the Auckland Hospital Board oii Tuesday. The chairman of the board, the Rev. W. C. Wood, said last evening that several locations were still under consideration but the Health Department, which had to approve the board's selection, favoured areas at Mount Wellington and Penrose. "[f a majority,of the board is in favour of one particular site, the Minister of Health, the Hon. P, Fraser, will be requested to give permission for the purchaser" of the land/' Mr. Wood stated. "If this is granted steps will be taken to acquire the site and the next question will be to consider building proposals." The site question has been under consideration by the board for over two years. The scheme was advanced this year by an inspection of several localities by the Director-General of Health, Dr. M. H. Watt, who was stated to favour a property of 86 acres at Mount Wellington, adjadent to the Sylvia Park railway station. Subsequently contour plans of the area were forwarded by the board to the Minister. Commenting upon the building scheme that would be necessary, Mr. Wood said there would be facilities for treating all chest complaints, provision being made for the accommodation of at least 150 patients. Those people at present housed in the shelters at the Epsom Infirmary together with the majority of those now 6ent to sanatoria in tie south would enter the hospital No definite building scheme has been considered, but it is probable that the hospital will be modelled on the lines of the Cashmere Sanatorium at Christ- •' church.
