PROGRESSIVE LEAGUE
AFTERNOON AT NORTHCOTE The members' afternoon of tho Northcote Women's Progressive League, fyeld yesterday in the Parish Hall, was largely attended. Mrs. A. Campbell presided. A vote of condolence was passed with the mother and relatives of the late Mr. A. P. Paitry, town clerk of Northcote. A report gn the recent conference ot the National Council of Women was given by the delegate, Mrs. W. Backett. On the suggestion of Mrs. D. P. O'Leary, a remit is to be forwarded to tho National Council of Women recommending the abolition of all street collections as now carried out for individual voluntary organisations; and instead, the establishment of a community chest, provided by one whole week's intensive collection in the city and suburbs, the proceeds to be divided among the various organisations. Tho convener, Mrs. Campbell, reported on tho activities of the Wilson Home auxiliary, stating that garments had been sent from Northcote. A collection taken during the afternoon also realised £3 2s. An address was given by the patron, Mrs. D. P. O'Leary, on the past achievements of tho league, its present activities and future aims. Pianoforte solos by Miss M. Shutes, songs by Miss Winifred Johnson, glees bv Mesdamcs W. F. Ward, W. Iv. A. Stewart, T. C. Alloly, W. Backett, W. E. Richardson, A. S. Tarrant, C. 11, Colegrave, A. Campbell, Misses 0. J. Williamson and Winifred Johnson, elocutionary items by Mrs. A. E. Treniain, and an address by Mrs. I. W. Muirhead on the British art exhibition at the Auckland Art Gallery were much enjoyed. The accompanist was Mrs. E. Barrington Snow.
