BALL AT KAWHIA

SPORTS CLUBS COMBINE PRESENTATION TO ALL BLACK A brilliant and successful annual combined ball was held last Friday evening in Kawhia. The hall, which was artistically decorated with multi-coloured streamers and lycopodiuni, presented a gay scene, the floor being thronged with dancers who came from all parts of the district. During the evening the president of the basketball association, Mr. I). Wright, presented various trophies, while Mr. N. S. Beatson, president of the Kawhia Rugby Union, presented the football trophies, which included the gift of a wristlet watch to Mr. W. J. Phillips, the local 1937 All Black. The hostesses were: —Mrs. N. S. Beatson in black ring velvet; Mrs. R. P. Braine, beaded silver and black ninon; Mrs. 1). S. Morris, black charmeuse; Mrs. J. N. Culley, black satin.
