WAIUKU TOWN AREA

STOCK ROUTE CONTROVERSY [from our own- correspondent] WAIUKU, Wednesday Fifty-six farmers on the east side of the town and 11 ratepayers within the town district boundary petitioned the Waiuku Town Board this week to revert to the old stock route through Waiuku. The board decided to adhere to the new route. The clerk, Mr. W. Sampson, reported that by September 24, which marked the expiry of the rebate period, £1485 had been received in the current year's rates. This was 43 per cent of the total levy. Payment of rate arrears totalled £193, or 36 per cent of the amount overdue. The collection of rates so far this year was slightly better than for the corresponding period last vear.
