STRAY DOG NUISANCE CONTROL OF HAWKERS Steps to check the nuijsince caused by stray dogs in the EHerslie district were decided upon by the EllcTslie Town Board after several complaints hud been reported by members. The chairman, JUr. H. J. "White, said he had repeatedly received complaints and requests for action by the board. From his personal observation he • agreed that the position was a and should not ibe tolerated.

Mr. fs! Pemberton said many of the straying animals "were apparently not registered. Mr. J. Chirm suggested that the board make a clean-up in conjunction with the City Council authorities. It wns decided to instruct the foreman to impound all dogs found at large and not under control. Suggestions for the control of hawkers and itinerant traders -were discussed. Members said householders were pestered with daily callers, and that the .increase in hawking snms reacting on business interests in the town. They urged that protective measures be adopted. It was decided to authorise tho town clerk to confer -with, tie police regarding the necessary steps,. The hoard confirmed a resolution urging that the registration of street names in the metropolitan area should be controlled liy .the chief postmaster, Auckland, to avoid further 'duplication in future. Mr. P. Somerfielil suggested that the postmaster should be empowered to alter names new duplicated. He felt that local bodies would not agree to .surrender local preferences. I'lie town clerk, Mr. .J. W. -Carr, imported that in the half-year ended em September -80 approximately half -of the vote of £1309 for -street maintenance had :been expanded, and that the Thn-I-ance of the footpath concreting loan had been spent.
