SERVICES ON THE BEACHES The report presented to the quarterly meeting of the O'nehunga Methodist Circuit disclosed satisfactory progress in all branches of church activity. r lho steps taken to restore tho finances to more stable conditions had, said the report, proved effective, and had resulted in an increased credit balance. A request to the I?ov. J. I). Groeott, who presided, to continue his ministry at the Onehunga Church for a second year, was acceded to. In order to assist him in his circuit duties, it was decided to appoint a student from tho Methodist College, Auckland, during the summer vacation. Tho lattor's duties will bo principally in tho Penrose and Mangere districts. Following a report by Mr. C. I?. Howell, the local preacher's committee undertook to take tho necessary steps toward training a number of young men in the circuit as local preachers. It was decided to enlist tho cooperation of ministers of other denominations in Onehunga for the purpose of holding combined open-air services on tho Onehunga beaches 011 Sunday afternoons during the summer months. Arrangements were reported to be in hand for holding a week-end retreat at Oratia for senior Bible Class students from October 23 to 25 on Mr. Alexander Service's farm, and Mr. W. R. Bookings was appointed supervisor. As a contribution toward the expenses of renovating the Methodist Church at Potorua, authority was given lor a retiring offertory in all churches in the circuit. Mr. F. C. Pace and Miss White were appointed to represent the circuit at the Auckland District Synod, to be held in the Pitt Street Methodist Church in November.
