Sir Robert Anderson, of Invercargil], .will shortly leave on a trip to Australia. Mr. A. W. Gardner returned from Wellington by the limited express yesterday morning. Mr. J. Sawers, railway goods agent at Christchurch, has been appointed to the position of assistant traffic manager at Auckland. Sir George Shirtcliffe, who has been on a health trip abroad, returned to Wellington by the Awatea this week. He was accompanied by Lady Shirtjpliffe. - Mr. Albert Bryant has been appointed adjudicator in the vocal and instrumental sections of the New Plymouth competitions, to be held next April. Mr. F. F. C. Leys, Auckland manager for the Fox Film Corporation (Now Zealand), Limited, was a passenger for Wellington by the limited express last night. Mr. H. Turner, London manager of the New Zealand Fruit Board, is returning to the Dominion by the Rangitiki, which is due at Auckland on October 20.

Mr. Justice Ostler will go to Napier for the Supreme Court sessions start- / ing on October 26, after which he will preside at the sessions beginning at Gisborne the following week.

Mr. H. R. Minn, assistant lecturer in classics in the University of Otnjzo, has passed the Bachelor of Divinity examination of the I diversity <ij London, according to advice received in Dunedin. Mr. T. TJ. Wells, chairman of the Auckland Education Board, left by the limited express last night for Palmerston North, where he will attend a meeting of the Massey Agricultural College Council. Dr. F. J. Williams, medical officer of Papua, who attended the International JuDilee Esperanto Congress, held at Warsaw in August, left Wellington on Tuesday with Mrs. Williams by the Van Rees for Sydney, en route to New Guinea. Dr. J. Howard Lawry and Mr. T. G. Julian were elected life members of the Automobile Association (Auckland) at the annual general meeting last night. Dr. Lawry's resignation as a member of the council was accepted later in the meeting.
